タイトル	「Mechanisms of repetition suppression in macaque inferior temporal cortex」
Abstract	Neurons in many parts of the brain decrease their response when repeating a stimulus. This adaptation or repetition suppression has re-aroused recent interest since it underlies the widely used fMRI adaptation method that is employed to infer stimulus selectivities of neurons in humans. I will review a series of studies that address the mechanisms of repetition suppression in macaque inferior temporal (IT) cortex. IT cortical neurons show strong adaptation and macaque IT also shows fMRI adaptation, providing the opportunity to study the neuronal mechanisms of fMRI adaptation. We will report experimental tests of several proposed mechanisms of adaptation at the single cell level and also discuss the possible function of adaptation in IT.
