玉川大学グローバルCOEプログラム「社会に生きる心の創成」では、玉川大学学術研究所K-16一貫教育研究センターとの共催により、McMaster University（カナダ）教授で認知発達研究者のDaphne Maurer先生をお招きして「共感覚」をテーマとした講演会を開催いたします。

タイトル	「Synaesthesia: A New Perspective for Understanding the Development of Perception and Even Language」
要旨	New insights about development can be gained from studies of adults who experience synaesthesia, in whom sensory stimuli induce extra cross or intra-modal percepts (for example, in whom a trumpet sounds red). Synaesthesia represents one way that typical developmental mechanisms can play out by magnifying connections present in early life, that are pruned and/or inhibited during development, but persist in muted form in all adults. Those connections exert unexpected influences on the perception of toddlers and may contribute to sound symbolism. I will illustrate this approach with our empirical findings on associations of colour to letters and of sound characteristics to the properties of objects.
